What is the specialty of ActiveTrack?
The ActiveTrack feature allows the Phantom 4 to track a moving target. And guess what, you don’t need a separate GPS tracker for it. All you need to do is, select the subject that you want to track by tapping on the screen of your mobile device inside the DJI GO app. The drone would automatically lock it and start tracking it from a safe distance. Sounds right out of a science fiction, doesn’t it?
What is the new TapFly feature in Phantom 4?
To fly a drone, who needs a remote controller! Thanks to P4’s TapFly feature, you can fly the quadcopter by simply tapping at the direction where you want your copter to fly. When Obstacle Avoidance is turned on, the copter would automatically adjust speed, hover and avoid obstacles, given the ambiance is bright enough ( < 300 lux) or too bright ( > 10,000 lux).
What is the Obstacle Sensing System capable of?
The obstacle sensing system allows the Phantom 4 to dodge obstacles, by scanning the objects in front. It avoids these obstacles by going around, above or by hovering.
Why is there a composite core on the Phantom 4?
The composite core reduces unwanted vibrations and increases rigidity, thus ensuring precision and performance of Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). The composite core even reduces the overall weight of the copter.
What are the new features in the Phantom 4 remote?
A new Sports mode has been introduced in Phantom 4. Thus, the P4 has a total of 3 modes, i.e P, S & A
- P (Position) mode, being the normal mode provides normal flying, along with Intelligent TapFly, Flight Modes, and ActiveTrack.
- S (Sports) mode allows maximum flight speeds, up to 44mph (72kmh)
- A (Altitude) mode is the same and removes satellite stabilization during flight, allowing the P4 to fly smoothly.
The ‘Playback’ has been replaced by a ‘Pause’ button, which allows you to put the copter in hover during Intelligent Flight Mode, ActiveTrack or TapFly with a tap.
What improvements does the Phantom 4 Vision Positioning-Unit have?
To increase reliability and hovering accuracy, the Vision Positioning System of the Phantom 4 uses 4 sensors. It has an improved sonar system, enabling it to function from up to 10 meters off the ground. Ideally, it provides the Vision Positioning System a horizontal hover accuracy of +/- 0.3 m and a vertical hover accuracy of +/- 0.1 m.
A what range does the Obstacle Sensing System work?
The effective Obstacle Sensing Range is 0.7 to 15 meters. Even though the DJI GO app indicates impending obstacles, the pilot should always pay attention during flight.
Is Obstacle Sensing System functional in all modes?

How different is the Phantom 4’s camera from Phantom 3?
The image quality of the Phantom 4 has been significantly improved. In comparison to Phantom 3, the lens distortion had been reduced by 36% in P4. Chromatic aberration has also been reduced by 56%. That’s not all, the camera firmware has been tweaked to enable 120fps video capture in full 1080p FHD.
Why does the Phantom 4 have a redundant IMU and compass?
By adding the redundant IMU and compass, you can enhance system reliability of the Phantom 4. It captures data from both IMUs &, compass and use it to navigate.
What are the distinguishing features of the Phantom 4 remote control and live feed?
The drone’s remote control and live feed are based on DJI Lightbridge technology. This provides effective control range of up to 3.1 miles (5km) in unobstructed areas which are free from interference. While the HD live feed gives an exact view of your flight, which is perfect for composing shots.
Is the Return-to-Home feature available on the Phantom 4?
Yes, the Phantom 4 has Return-to-Home ability. On top of it, the Smart Return Home feature engages the Obstacle Sensing System during its return to home flight. If the copter witnesses an obstacle on its way back, it will skilfully avoid it during its return trip home.
What is the need of the Sports Mode?
The Sports mode is strictly made for fun. It lets you fly the drone faster than ever, or to quickly get to your shoot location while the light is perfect. With the Sports Mode, you can get a top speed of 44.7 mph (72Kph).
What is the horizontal speed of Phantom 4 in Atti Mode?
In Atti mode, the horizontal speed of the P4 is 44.7mph (72kph).
How different is the Sports Mode from Atti Mode?
Both modes allow you to fly the Phantom 4 at 44.7mph. But in Atti mode, GPS/Glonass, and its Vision Positioning System doesn’t function and can’t help the drone with hovering or navigation.
While in ActiveTrack, how do you stop tracking the subject? What happens to the drone after you stop tracking?
To stop tracking the subject, you have to tap the Stop button on the left of the screen or pull the pitch stick for 3 seconds to exit ActiveTrack. After you stop tracking the target, the drone will hover in place. Now you may choose to start a new mission or bring it back to the Home Point.
How small an object be seen by the Phantom 4’s Obstacle Sensing System?
The Obstacle Sensing System can identify any object which is larger than 500 pixels.
